Some Details…

Because there is no food service at the Airport, the PAPA Inland Empire Team will arrange for doughnuts and coffee for starters, and will be open to reasonable suggestions from members for future alternatives.  I am told that there will be a Keurig coffee machine available.  Believing that this will happen, I would suggest that attendees might consider bringing a couple of K cups of their favorite brew along with them, to ensure that they can have the coffee variety that they like.  The Team will provide the doughnuts, some sort of a selection of K cups, disposable coffee cups, creamer, sugar, water bottles, and paper towels.  We will set out a donation jar to offset the costs.

For anyone who is hungry (or thirsty) after the meeting, Hangar 24 Brewery is right across the street!

They have a pretty good menu of pub fare if youโ€™re hungry, and some excellent craft brews made on-site to wash it down with.  If youโ€™re not a beer drinker, donโ€™t worryโ€ฆthey have craft Root Beer, and other soft drinks available.  They open at 11 A.M.  Hereโ€™s the food menu.

The Airport Lobby is quite large, and has at least as much usable meeting space as the Mill Creek area that we were assigned to.  There are CLEAN Menโ€™s and Womenโ€™s rest rooms.  We will have access to a wall-mounted flat screen TV, which can accept an HDMI cable for connection to a laptop computer (for presentations). The North aspect of the Lobby is all glass, and provides an excellent view of the small aircraft traffic on the runway, which is approximately 50 yards from the Lobby.

It is interesting to note that the airport management has recently developed an active interest in Amateur Radio.  There have been some recent experiences involving the emergency evacuation of mountain residents, and no timely and effective method to communicate with them.  In a recent incident, it happened that a member of the helicopter evacuation flight crew was a Ham operator, and was able to connect with the evacuees using her HT.  This caused airport management to begin to look into the potential value of adding UHF / VHF phone Amateur Radio capability as a part of their communications suite.  The timing of the PAPA Systemโ€™s arrival at this facility may prove to be serendipitous.

See you in Redlands!

Door Prizes!

Our PAPA Partners have agreed to support our Luncheons and Breakfasts with their products for door prizes. One winner will be able to select from five different prizes. The goal is to sell a minimum of $300 worth of tickets to cover the cost of the door prize and help raise funds for PAPA projects.

PAPA Quick Start Program

In conjunction with our test sessions, PAPA has a โ€œNew Technicianโ€ gift. Anyone passing the Technician exam at one of our meetings will have the opportunity to participate in the PAPA Quick Start Program.

Our Quick Start Program is designed to get you on the air as soon as your new FCC license arrives and help you understand how to use a radio on the PAPA System to communicate with fellow hams. It’s quick and easy to participate in the Quick Start Program. The PAPA System will provide you with a pre-programmed UHF handheld radio at no cost to you and assist you with technical and operational issues as you learn more about ham radio. We will help you make your first radio contact, and look forward to your participation in the New Hams Net. More details are available at the test session.
