America’s Last Morse-Code Station
Maritime Morse code was formally phased out in 1999, but in California, a group of enthusiasts who call themselves the “radio squirrels” keeps the tradition alive. For an interesting read, check out this item from the April 2024 edition of The Atlantic
Some of you may also remember the San Diego Yacht Club YouTube presentation on KPH in 2020.
You can get a sense of what excites many about KPH by watching Richard Dillman, W6AWO talk about KPH in these short videos:
- The last Morse code maritime radio station (~5 mins)
- The last radio station (~10 mins)
