PAPA Pro Tip: Get Radio Active
The more you talk on the PAPA System, the more others will recognize your callsign, voice and name. When new to any repeater group, it doesn’t hurt to say your name after your callsign, “Good day PAPA System. This is W6ABC, George, on PAPA One”. Chances are anyone replying back is bound to remember your name before your callsign. Don’t get too concerned about remembering other’s callsigns. The FCC rules only require you to say your callsign every 10 minutes and when signing off. Having a pen and notepad handy is a good idea if you want to recall someone’s callsign. Don’t be afraid to ask another Ham to slowly repeat their callsign phonetically to you.
